One day the health inspector arrives and informs them that a penguin cannot serve as waiter. Garson is sad and disheartened, but he refuses to sit home. He diligently searches for new employment. His problem is that he no matter how hard he tries, he is just not suited to them. Finally, he gets a job he loves at the library, only to discover the head librarian is upset because no penguin has ever worked in a library. Will Garson be able to prove his worth or will he suffer the same fate once more?I love the clever play on words. The author names his character, Garson, a play on garcon, the French word for waiter. Garson is such a lovable, hard-working role model. Illustrations are colorful and appealing. Short length makes is suitable for a bedtime story or read aloud for elementary school children.

I chose this rating for the great message to children and up that there is always something that one could do better than someone else just like Garson and the Head Librarian learned the hard way and had to be humbled and ask forgiveness in a sense. Great illudtratiins, too.bTherefore i wish to recommend this for those ages 5 and up -who enjoys animal stories such as this.

I got this book for free after seeing it on a free book alert. The book was added to the night time reading rotation for a 5 year old. Garson works at a restaurant and is a good server and no one seems to have an issue with him working there until the health inspector shows up. Garson leaves so the owners don't have to shut down and tries different jobs until he finds himself at the library. He becomes popular at the library with everyone but the head librarian until... he proves while doing a very kind act and after that wins the head librarian over and gets to keep his new job at the library.
